32 Things I’ve Learned
Before I turn 33, I thought it would be fun to list 32 things I have learned in my 32 years here on earth. So, here we go…
- Be yourself. Don’t waste your time trying to be someone you are not. Sure, people change as they grow older, but change and grow for the right reasons. Not to please or impress someone else.
- Not everyone is going to like you. Why? I have no clue, but don’t waste your time trying to figure it out. Be nice and move on.
- It’s OK to not like coffee. I’ve tried to like it, but I just can’t. Black. Iced. Hot with milk and sugar. I just can’t do it. Sorry.
- Talk to your family at least once a week. Set aside a specific day or time to stay connected.
- It’s OK to wear makeup. It’s also OK to not wear makeup. Do whatever makes you feel beautiful, but don’t look down on those who choose differently.
- Be humble. Give God the praise first. ALWAYS.
- Smile. Always. Anytime. At anyone. Don’t be the person that doesn’t smile back.
- Reach out to your friends at least once a week. Let them know you are thinking about them and praying for them.
- Be kind. This is learned. There is NO excuse for rudeness.
- There is nothing better than a cup of hot tea and a blanket on a rainy day. Nothing.
- Leggings are totally acceptable as pants if your shirt covers the front and the back. You know what I’m saying? π
- I will never like bugs. Ever. EVER.
- I don’t like doing yard work. I would love to get into gardening, but I’ll need a bubble to protect myself from the bugs.
- Sundays are my favorite day of the week, followed closely by Monday. π Make every effort to be IN church on Sundays, your yard work can wait. π
- I don’t like clutter. It makes me anxious. The less, the better.
- Dogs are the best. Period. Except this cat I met one time, Katie. She was basically a cuddly soccer ball of a cat. We connected for sure.
- Books are beautiful. The way they feel. The way they smell. The older, the better. π
- Baking is therapeutic for me. It’s also taught me that patience is rewarded. π
- Clean bed sheets twice a week will change your life.
- Don’t be afraid to pray in front of your friends. You’re not praying to them anyway.
- Drink water. All the time. Especially when you first wake up.
- Buy yourself flowers sometimes. Why not?
- Sunflowers are the best flowers, by the way. π
- Take care of your feet because they never take a day off. I like doing my own pedicures at home. I’m ticklish. π
- Take days off. Get out of the house. Or stay in. Do something you like to do. Put yourself first sometimes.
- Volunteer. Take your time and invest it in something you are passionate about. People. Animals. Serving Food. Just do something for someone else.
- Be aware. Of everything. This is also learned. How loud are you talking right now? Did you pick up that piece of trash on the ground? Did you even look your cashier in the eye? Don’t be in your own world 24/7.
- No matter how hard you fight it or try to change it, you are born with your skin type and your hair texture. π
- Praying and reading God’s Word everyday is an act of discipline. You just have to do it. It will get easier and more enjoyable, I promise. But you have to START! Set an egg timer for 5 minutes and just do it already!
- You can’t have just one plant in your house. You’ll want more and then you won’t be able to stop yourself.
- Chinese food is the best food in the world. I could eat it every.single.day.
- I love my body. π I’m proud of the shape I’m in and how far I’ve come, not only physically, but mentally. π
Writing this list was pretty easy. I could have written more. I guess that means I’ve learned a lot in my short time on this earth. If I had to add one more thing, it would be this:
33. No matter what I do or who I become, I will always be a child of God first. And that’s more important than anything.
