My Prayer Calendar
My prayer what? What is a prayer calendar and why do I have one?
I’m not sure if it’s a thing, but I just made it up one day several years ago. I wanted a simple and efficient way to communicate with God the needs of my family and friends.
Now, I come from a praying family. What in the world does that mean?
Ever since I can remember, we prayed. We prayed over all our meals, before long car rides and my parents even prayed with us before we went to sleep. If there ever was a need or prayer request made known to us, we stopped what we were doing and prayed right then and there.
I’m used to praying. I’m comfortable praying. It’s not a science or a magical formula. It’s simply having a conversation with God. 🙂
I don’t know about you, but sometimes, prayer can seem a little overwhelming. Thinking about praying for everysinglepersoniknoweverysingleday overwhelms me. I just honestly don’t have that kind of time or attention span. But I still want to pray for them!
So, years ago, I made a list.
I do that. I like making lists. 🙂 I made a list of every relationship I had in my life and even thought about issues or things bigger than myself. I assigned each person, group or issue a day of the week and I committed to praying for them that day.
Praying this way allows me to pray deeper for the needs of my family and friends on a daily basis. I try to touch base with them every now and then to ask for specific prayer needs.
I’ve placed my prayer calendar in various obvious places over the years so I am reminded who to pray for that day. Although, by now, I have the days memorized. 😉 Here is what it looks like:
I hope this inspires you to create your own prayer calendar! Some people don’t pray because they don’t think they have time or they’re not good at it or they don’t know what to say. But just remember that practice makes perfect. 😉 And even though prayer is never about perfection, it is about effort.
Just do it.
